About The Song
This song was written in the time period when there was a large amount of political scandals like Watergate and the Vietnam war was just coming to an end. People were tired of being lied to by the government and they no longer trusted the leaders of thier nation and did not want corrupt men to lead them into the future. Here are some important lyrics from the song that show the ovveral message they are trying to get across.

Meet the new boss
Same as the old boss

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution

Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again
Don't get fooled again

The change, it had to come
We knew it all along
We were liberated from the fold, that's all
And the world looks just the same

I think that this song does do a good job at spreading its messages, the writer helps you understand what is going on at the time and how he feels about the current events.

End of the Vietnam War, Watergate sandal Bribery and Conspiracy

Watergate -1970-1973
Vietnam War - 1959-1975

Involved Parties: US Government

The Vietnam War like most wars was very expensive and many of the promises people made about the war were not followed through with, at the end of the war many people were tired of the lies from the government. Scandal and conspiracy had also broken out in the US at the executive level many high powered people in the government were being accused and convicted of taking bribes or stealing government documents.

These events caused doubt in US citizens and it also influenced the pop culture. Many groups, including the Who, wrote songs about what was happening at that time in history and what they felt about it.

The reason that we chose this song is that we had both heard the song before and we liked the band The Who, other then that we didn't really know much about the song or what it represented.
